Hey, I'm learning High German and although I still need a lot to learn, I need help with learning German. Whenever I hear someone from Bavaria, I don't understand some of the words you use (slang?). Do you mind telling me some common words in your states that aren't in standard German? (I'm sorry for my crappy English)

Ludwig: “This is a very dangerous questions to ask, but I suppose fair. The dialects are rather different from state to state and some states even have several dialects. It’s very confusing. But the most important example I and the rest of the bunch can teach you the different words for a bread bun.”

Ludwig: “You see, in standard high German it’s called ‘Brötchen’, but they each have their own word for it...”

Ludwig: “Believe it or not, this is a matter of some debate.”

Thuringia, who's your favourite neighbour?

Mathilda: “We’ve been through a lot together and I’ve always been close to him it feels like. Plus my other options aren’t really... that interesting, there’s Franz (Bavaria), Rainer (Hesse) and Fritz (Saxony-Anhalt). Nobody really likes Franz, Rainer is sweet but we’re not really close and Fritz can be such...a pain in the butt sometimes and so cranky. Technically Sönke (Lower Saxony) is also my neighbour but barely.”

[Kloß/Klöße is German for dumplings. And dumplings are somehow super popular in Thuringia. She’s also super proud of them, even obsessed with them. There are of course Thüringer Klöße and apparently different form other dumplings. They even have a dumpling museum. A Kuschelkloß is basically just a plushie of a dumpling.]
